Your mouse is possibly one of the most fallible piece of equipment attached to your computer.

If your mouse pointer on the screen is jumping erratically or is otherwise performing incorrectly, then it is most likely that there is a buildup of dirt on the ball or on the rollers inside the mouse.

I often use and suggest the following procedure as it could save you the cost of getting a new mouse.
bullet

Shut down your computer.

bullet

Turn the mouse upside down.

bullet

Remove the mouse cover (a circular piece of plastic, which can be turned anti-clockwise).

bullet

Turn your mouse upright to remove the mouse ball.

bullet

When the mouse ball is out, use sticky tape to pick up any dust on the surface.

bullet

Wipe the rollers inside with a cotton swab carefully.

bullet

Return the mouse ball into it’s ‘home’.

bullet

Replace the mouse cover by turning it clockwise until it clicks in.

Also, investing in a mouse pad can also reduce these problems. However, I recommend you clean your mouse regularly to prevent the buildup happening.
