(using Internet Explorer 6.0)
Most web browsers, including
Internet Explorer, keep a history of what you have been looking at during
your Internet session for future reference. This can often be more of a
hindrance than a helpful feature as other users of your computer can see
the addresses of websites that you have been looking through. To ensure
your privacy and security, a safe measure to practice is to clear your
history. It is also useful to clear your AutoComplete history including
history and passwords.
So here’s how to cover your tracks:
History
 |
Open Internet Explorer
in your usual way. |
 |
If it asks to connect
to the Internet, click Cancel. |
 |
Internet Explorer
should appear. |
 |
Click Tools
(from the top menu bar). |
 |
Click
Internet Options…. |
 |
Click on the General
tab. |
 |
Under the “History”
section, click the Clear History button. |
 |
Internet Explorer will
then ask if you are sure that you wish to delete your history of visited
websites. |
 |
Click Yes to
confirm that you do wish to do so. |
 |
Windows will then
delete your history of visited websites. |
AutoComplete
 |
After following the
fifth step above, click on the Content tab. |
 |
Click the
AutoComplete button. |
 |
Under the “Use
AutoComplete for” section, untick all boxes. |
 |
Under the “Clear
AutoComplete history”, click Clear Forms. |
 |
Internet Explorer will
then ask if you are sure that you wish to clear your previously saved
entries except passwords. |
 |
Click OK to
confirm that you do wish to do so. |
 |
Under the “Clear
AutoComplete history”, click Clear Passwords. |
 |
Internet Explorer will
then ask if you are sure that you wish to clear your previously saved
form passwords. |
 |
Click OK to
confirm that you do wish to do so. |
 |
Click OK to
close the Internet Options window. |
 |
That’s it! You may need
to restart Internet Explorer for the history to be cleared completely. |
