In order to reduce the amount of spam you receive, you might find it beneficial to have a secondary email account to use when publishing on a website, completing surveys or web forms. You can then provide your primary one for family and friends, reducing your load of junk mail. Many providers offer free email accounts, and one such provider is Hotmail.

Here's how to create a Hotmail account:

bulletConnect to the Internet as per usual.
bulletIn the address bar, type http://www.hotmail.com.
bulletThe Hotmail website should be displayed within a few moments.
bulletClick Sign Up.
bulletChoose from either a Windows Live Hotmail account or a Windows Live services account (including Hotmail). Click Get it.
bulletYou will then be prompted to sign up for Windows Live, by creating a Windows Live ID, password, password reset information and personal information and accept an agreement.

Record the following information:

Windows Live ID: ___________________________________
Password: ___________________

bulletOnce this is done, your account will be created.
bullet To log into your account go to http://www.hotmail.com and enter the Windows Live ID and password you just entered.

Reminder - Don’t forget to sign out!
Don’t forget to "sign out" at the end of your e-mail reading/writing session with Hotmail.

This protects your e-mails from being read by others. Look for the "Sign Out" button at the top right hand corner of the screen.
