At the launch of the Microsoft Office 2007, a new file format for default documents for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 was introduced. These files do not allow backward compatibility with existing files, this is a Word 2007 document cannot be opened in Word 2003 or earlier. A Compatibility Pack File Formats is now available for download to ensure your Microsoft Office 2007 documents are compatible with previous versions.

bulletDownload “Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats” from the Microsoft Download Centre page at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=en.
bulletClick Download.
bulletWhen prompted, save “FileFormatConverters.exe” to your computer, preferably to the Downloads folder or your Desktop.
bulletWhen the file has completed downloading, click Run.
bulletRead the “Microsoft Software Licence Terms” and if you agree, click the appropriate checkbox and click Continue.
bulletThe Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Pack will then be installed.
bulletOnce installed, a message will advise you that “The installation is complete”. Click OK.
bulletThat's it! You will now be able to open and save Microsoft Office 2007 files in your earlier programs.
