Using Norton 360

Although most modern Internet Security programs are capable of performing scans and removal of viruses and spyware automatically, it is still recommended that computers users performing manual scan and removal of viruses and spyware regularly - preferably once a week (if you computer is used frequently) or at least once a month.

Please note: This guide is for users of Norton 360. If you are using Norton Internet Security, please view the How-to Guide for Norton Internet Security available from the CyberGuru website.

bulletDouble-click the Norton 360 icon from the desktop to run the program.
bulletThe Norton 360 program will open and bring you to the Status screen.
bulletClick “Scans” (located on the top right of the program window).
bulletThe “Choose Scans” window will appear. Click Comprehensive Check.
bulletClick the Go button.
bulletIf a warning window appears advising that you must configure backup in order to run it, click No if you haven't configured Backup. If you would like to configure Backup now, click Yes.
bulletNorton 360 will then perform a series of scans, including LiveUpdate, virus and spyware checks, weak password checks, browser security check, network address check, cleanup of Internet Temporary Files and Windows Temporary Files and Internet History and Disk Optimisation. If you have configured backup, this will be performed as well. This may take some time to complete.
bulletOnce the scan has finished, a Results window will appear. From here, you can review the results of each of the scanned performed and receive more information on each of the work Norton 360 performed on your computer.
bulletClicking More Info... will display the results for Virus and Spyware Scan. In this window, you can click on Files Removed by Virus and Spyware Scan, where you can identify virus and spyware items that have been removed by Norton 360.You can request these items be restored and exclude from being checked again.
bulletClick Close and close Norton 360.
bulletThat’s it! You've now manually scanned and removed viruses and spyware using Norton 360!
