(Old versions from version 6 and below)

To ensure they are fully protected against spyware and malware, we recommend all users of old versions of Ad-Aware upgrade to Ad-Aware SE. Here’s how:

bullet

Download Ad-aware from one of the locations listed at http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download and follow the prompts to download the file.

bullet

When the file has completed downloading, run “aawsepersonal.exe”, the Ad-Aware SE setup program.

bullet

Click Open.

bullet

Setup will check for previously installed components.

bullet

A welcome screen will appear. Click Next >.

bullet

A licence screen will appear. Click the box labelled “I accept the licence agreement” and click Next >.

bullet

A warning will appear saying that a previous version of Ad-Aware has been found in a particular folder. Ensure the radio button, “Yes, uninstall previous version of Ad-Aware. (Recommended).” is ticked and click Next >.

bullet

Setup will then uninstall the previous version of Ad-Aware. Once it has finished, “Uninstall Successful!” will appear. Click Next >.

bullet

Setup will ask for a destination location. Accept the folder that it suggests and click Next >.

bullet

Setup may then ask to install to All Users menu (if you have Windows 2000, XP or later). Ensure the radio button, “Anyone who users this computer” is ticked and click Next >.

bullet

Setup will then notify you that it is ready to install Ad-Aware SE. Click Next > to begin installation.

bullet

Setup will then install the files required for Ad-Aware SE. Please wait whilst it copies the files to your computer.

bullet

Once Ad-Aware SE has been successfully installed, click (uncheck) the box labelled “Open the help file now” and click Finish >.

bullet

Ad-Aware SE will then run and perform a WebUpdate, followed by a System Scan of your computer to ensure it is clear of spyware and adware.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you regularly run Ad-Aware SE to ensure your computer is free of spyware and adware. Also, as Ad-Aware SE is updated frequently every time you run Ad-Aware click “Check for updates now” on the Status section to ensure you are running it with the latest updates.
