Microsoft Update provides the latest updates for your
version of Windows, Office and other Microsoft applications. By using
Microsoft Update you can prevent problems such as security issues. Updates
are added frequently so it is worth checking at least monthly to obtain
the latest ones to keep your computer protected and safe.
IMPORTANT: Before following these instructions on a work
computer, please ensure your company allows you to do this.

If it is has been installed already, click Start and
click Microsoft Update.

If you have not yet installed Microsoft
Update, open Internet Explorer in your usual way and go to
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate.

Internet Explorer will then load the Windows Update
website.
|

A “Try Microsoft Update today” screen will appear.
Click Start Now.
|
 |
A “Review the license agreement” screen may appear.
Click Continue.
|
 |
Microsoft Update will then checking to see if your
computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use
with the website.
|

If you are running Windows Update for the first
time, you will see a "Security Warning" window asking you if you want
to run and install Microsoft Update. Check that it is from Microsoft
Corporation and then click Install.

After accepting the warnings and downloading the
required files, Microsoft Update will inform you setup is complete.
Click Check for Updates.

Note: You may have to download and install the
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool the first time you run
Windows update.

Microsoft Update will load and you will be presented
with a “Welcome” page. Click Express.
|
 |
Microsoft Update will then look for available
updates.
|
 |
Once Microsoft Update has found updates available, a
list of “High Priority Updates” will appear if there are any
available. Click Install Updates to download and install these.

A window will appear informing you that the updates
are being downloaded and installed.
|
 |
After installing the updates, a message should
appear that you have successfully updated your computer and that you
need to restart. Save all of your programs and click Restart Now to do
this.

Once you’ve installed all of the High Priority
updates, it is recommended you go back to Windows Updates and see if
you require any Custom updates.

On the “Welcome” page, click Custom.
|
 |
Choose any updates you require and follow the steps
above to download and install them.

That’s it! You’ve successfully updated and installed
the latest Windows, Office and other Microsoft application updates
using Microsoft Update.
