solutions needs in the future.
In this issue:
A word from the Chief Guru: Seasons Greetings
As we conclude another year and commence our tenth year of operations,
we have much to celebrate. Since graduating from a dual-degree in
Business and Information Systems earlier in the year, I also now hold
industry-recognised certifications as a Microsoft Certified Professional
with Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician qualifications. I am
also looking to complete Windows Vista qualifications in the coming
months.
Since reducing working hours in March this year after I accepted a
full-time position, CyberGuru is striving to meet the computer solutions
needs and expectations of our clients. Such a transition can be
difficult and we appreciate your understanding.
CyberGuru would like to thank our clients, prospective clients, family
and friends for their ongoing support and custom, and pass on our best
wishes through Christmas and the new year. As we enter an exciting new
era for CyberGuru, we look forward to working with you again in 2007.
We hope you enjoy this bumper issue of the CyberGuru Newsletter. Please
view our Christmas card from us to you to enjoy, which is available from
http://www.cyberguru.com.au/christmascard2006.htm.

News: Windows Vista and 2007 Office System released to manufacturing
Since the publication of the last CyberGuru Newsletter, Windows Vista
and the 2007 Microsoft Office System will be released to manufacturing
and launched soon after. Whilst enterprises have had the products before
Christmas, consumers will be waiting until end of January when it is
available for purchase.
If you are looking at purchasing a new computer, CyberGuru recommends
you until the products are released and buy them as part of your new
system. Microsoft’s stated requirements for “Windows Vista Capable” and
“Windows Vista Premium Ready” may require your computer receive a
hardware upgrade at the same time. Although most computers purchased
within the past year or two should be fine to run this. For more
information on the specifications required to run Windows Vista, visit:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/capable.mspx.
If you do buy a computer now, there appears to be an option available
for an “Express Upgrade” to Windows Vista when you buy a qualifying PC
running Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition,
or Windows XP Professional between 26 October 2006 and 15 March 2007.
Information about the Express Upgrade is available from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/expressupgrade.mspx.
For those who are looking at upgrading their existing computers,
Microsoft have recently announced that an “Upgrade Guarantee” programme
for those who purchase boxed versions of Office 2003 or Windows XP
between 26 October 2006 and 28 February 2007. The closest corresponding
upgrade for the new versions will be posted to you on their release. For
more information, visit
http://www.microsoft.com/australia/upgradeguarantee.
However, there are some conditions you should be aware of, particularly
as this does not include the Academic Edition of Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 2 and that a charge of $27 is charged to your credit card
for GST, postage and handling.
If you would like CyberGuru to see if your existing computer meets the
required specifications to run Windows Vista, please contact us to make
an appointment today.
Christmas Offer: Free $50 Google AdWords Credit
Last Christmas we offered new and current CyberGuru Hosting and Design
clients a free $50 credit from Google AdWords towards their ad campaign
to start acquiring new customers.
This year the offer has returned for clients who would like to see for
themselves how effective Google AdWords advertising can be thanks to a
business partner, Ilisys Web Hosting.
Google AdWords ads only appear to people who are actively seeking
information that’s relevant to the products and services being
advertised. These ads enable you to convert targeted prospects into
customers by appearing in the right place, and engaging them at
precisely the right moment. The fact that these prospects are online,
actively reading pages and using search terms related to your product or
service means they’re likely to be interested in what you have to offer.
It also means they’re likely to act by clicking on your ad to visit your
site for more information or to make a purchase.
For more information and to activate your $50 credit, please visit
http://www.cyberguru.com.au/solutions_design_web_publicity_googleadwords.htm
and complete your details. Our friendly AdWords professionals will be in
touch with you to help you set up your campaign.
Opinion: Windows Vista Review
Similar to our approach when Windows 2000 was released, CyberGuru has
released an opinion paper on Windows Vista, rather than a full review of
the product.
CyberGuru’s review takes on a different style to most other literature,
as it takes CyberGuru first impressions, flavours, pricing and
frequently asked questions.
If you would like to ask a question about Windows Vista, we would be
more than willing to assist. We will be answering questions through our
web form and answer the questions as part of the frequently asked
questions within the section of the article and as part of an series of
articles on Windows Vista in the CyberGuru Newsletter.
The Windows Vista review will be available from our Opinion page at
http://www.cyberguru.com.au/helpdesk_opinion.htm from 1 February 2007.
Hints, Tips and Tricks: Mobile Phone Scam Warning
It has been reported that mobile phone users are now being targeted for
a phone call back scam. Keep an eye out for unusual calls to your
mobile. There have been casualties who have been caught out from this
scam already.
This is available from our Hints, Tips and Tricks page at
http://www.cyberguru.com.au/helpdesk_hintstipstricks.htm.
How-to Guide: Backing up files in Easy Media Creator 7

* Whenever you turn it on, all the dogs in your neighbourhood start
howling.
* The screen often displays the message, “Ain’t it break time yet?”.
