Microsoft recently released its latest version of its flagship browser, Internet Explorer 11 which is included as part of Windows 8.1 and downloadable separately for other versions of Windows. Amongst its new features, there are some changes to the way pages are displayed and as a result some pages are not appearing as they should.
These problems may prevent you from performing particular functions, accessing particular areas of a website, such as logging in or being able to view content.
You might notice as you come across some pages that you can’t access particular features. In our own travels, we’ve come across specific pages within major websites such as HP, Virgin Mobile, and Microsoft themselves that can’t be accessed.
We understand Microsoft is investigating this however until an update is released, we suggest a way to work around pages that are not appearing correctly is to use the Compatibility View feature available in Internet Explorer. This will allow pages that worked in earlier versions of Internet Explorer display how they were designed.
To apply Compatibility View to a particular website:
- In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools button on the toolbar.
- Click Compatibility View settings.
- In the box which appears, enter the address of the website you would like Compatibility View to be applied to (for instance, http://www.microsoft.com) and click Add to add this to your list.
- Click Close to close the Window.
- Refresh your page for the Compatibility View to be applied.

Alternatively, you may choose to uninstall Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and 8, however you will find that unable to do so on Windows 8.1. In this case, you could install another browser.
