CyberGuru’s Chief Guru addresses aspiring ICT professionals on emerging tech, opportunities and skills

CyberGuru’s Chief Guru, Chris Jeffery, presented on the topic, “Emerging tech, opportunities and skills”, as part of the Tech and Employability Skills Conference organised by Australian Computer Society (ACS) Queensland Branch at River City Labs on 27 February 2020. It was well received with over 100 professional year and domestic tertiary ICT students in attendance.

The event is targeted towards students currently completing their professional year or domestic tertiary studies in ICT. It highlighted technical and soft-skills in demand, highlighting ways in which you can stand out and succeed as a skilled ICT professional.

In the presentation, Chris spoke of the evolution of cyber security from his perspective from 23 years in business. Covering significant cyber security dates in history, perspectives from 1997, 2007 and 2017 and onto 2020, describing the challenge of looking after your “digital house” and provided various examples of social engineering. He also shared various tips to ensure professionals were protecting themselves.

One of the attendees wrote to Chris afterwards saying, “I absolutely loved your session! It had very useful information which might not be a 100% relevant for me today but definitely would be in the future.”.

With many questions, comments and feedback coming from the participants, it’s great to see the passion and interest in the industry for the generation of professionals coming through!
