In a month from now, Windows XP will no longer be supported by Microsoft. Whilst CyberGuru have made mention of this in previous blog articles, recently new information has come to light regarding ways to upgrade from Windows XP to newer version of Windows including Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 that was not previously possible.
Microsoft has recently announced via the Windows Experience Blog (link opens in new window) that it will provide a free data migration tool, known as PCmover Express for Windows XP. According to Microsoft, PCmover Express for Windows XP will copy your files from your Windows XP PC (including your documents, music, videos, email and profiles) to a new PC running Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
From 8 March 2014, computers that are running Windows XP Home and Professional editions will receive an official notification via Windows Update that support for Windows XP is ending. This notification will reappear on the eighth day of every month until the computer is upgraded. For those still running Windows XP, it is also understood Microsoft Security Essentials will continue to be updated until 15 July 2015 to provide partial protection of your computer.
