In July, CyberGuru celebrated 22 years of successful operations. Thank you to all our clients for their custom, and to our colleagues, family and friends who have supported us throughout this time.
CyberGuru was established with the purpose of providing professional computer solutions and has grown predominately through recommendations and networking. We are proud to be a family owned and operated business and be able be a trusted business partner to our clients.
We appreciate all of the various opportunities we have received and those who have been with us along this journey so far.
In July, CyberGuru celebrates a significant milestone. We have been proudly providing our clients with computer solutions for 21 years. We appreciate the continued business and support of our clients, family and friends. We have some been with us throughout this time – believe it or not, of our earliest clients are still with us!
Since our earliest beginnings, we have seen the Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) sector develop and evolve over time. We are one year older than Google, and near seven years’ Facebook senior. When we began back in 1997, technology generally consisted of one shared computer per household at the time, and we look how now expanded to at least one computer per person – with many households having more computers than people!
Over this time, we have continued to expand our knowledge and skills with a range of platforms, devices and services, develop relationships with many trusted colleagues and business partners, and proudly support small businesses, not-for-profit organisations and individuals with their ICT needs.
Who knows what the next 21 years will bring, however we know one thing – that it will continue to change. As celebrating with you over this year, we are gearing to further educating, empowering and enabling our clients to embrace and adopt these changes. We look forward look forward to continuing to support our clients into the future for a long-time yet!
On 6 July 1997, Chris Jeffery developed his first website for his computer repair and website design business which was then known as “Christopher Jeffery – Computer Guru*”. Looking forward 20 years, it’s time to reflect and celebrate how far we have come.
Chris’ story began a few years earlier, in 1994, when a computer technician for visited to repair the family computer. The technician was not willing to advise on the resolution of the issue or provide any service. The experience on that day resulted in a vision of CyberGuru.
CyberGuru, since its very beginnings, has been to enable, empower and educate its clients with ICT knowledge and skills to improve their own ability to be self-sufficient on the use of computers.
We have seen many developments and changes, perhaps none more so than the advancement of technology itself, whether through performance, size and proliferation of technology in the offices, homes and schools.
The ICT and digital sector, much like the technology itself, is evolving and revolving. From simply computers, the industry has grown significantly and continue to adopt to changing market conditions. We have seen the birth of Google (which was launched a year after us!), social media, cloud, the internet of things, amongst others.
We wish to thank the support of all our clients, prospective clients, family and friends who have recommended, assisted and stood by us through the many years.
* Due to the discovery of another business established at the time known as Computer Guru, the name was promptly changed to CyberGuru, which has been our name since that time.
Remember when you had to dial up to connect to the internet? When AltaVista and Netscape ruled cyberspace? Before the days of Google and Facebook, there was CyberGuru.
This year CyberGuru celebrates its 20th anniversary. In recognition of this achievement, the Australian Computer Society Queensland Branch has asked Chris to reflect on his success over this time and present on Sustainment as a Sole Provider in IT for 20 years – Reflections from a Successful Entrepreneur for the first Small Medium Enterprise Special Interest Group (SME SIG) for 2017.
The session is being held at the Berkley’s on Ann, 255 Ann Street, Brisbane on Monday 27 March 2017 at 5:30pm.

On 15 July, CyberGuru will celebrate our 18th birthday since our commencement. When I just 14 years of age, when I started CyberGuru in 1997 as a hobby whilst at school. Now 18 years on and at 32 years of age, CyberGuru has grown and developed into a well-respected, trusted and reliable Information Communication and Technology (ICT) consulting and training provider for small businesses and not-for-profit organisations across the northside and surrounding suburbs in Brisbane.
I began my business out of my interest in computers and empowering small businesses and not-for-profit organisations to take advantage of them to their full potential. From CyberGuru’s earliest beginnings, I prided myself on providing award-winning, professional and affordable computer solutions. CyberGuru’s mantra is to “empower, educate and enable computer users to do that all is possible, with excellence in all we do”.
I am appreciative that my work has been awarded through numerous accolades over the years, including winner of the Young ICT Professional of the Year in 2012 by the Australian Computer Society Queensland Branch and winner of the Intel Australia On-line Awards Website Competition in 1999. Further, I also been recently nominated (for the second year in a row) for the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards for Young Business Person of the Year.
I appreciate the custom of all of my clients over the years, as well as my family and friends for their support. As I mentioned to some at a networking event of this announcement this week, I am now able to drink! :).
